No. I mean, you feel it, but it doesn't hurt. I can make it hurt if you need it to. Some people are like that.

Acupuncture needles are hair thin. Most people hate needles because of a trip to the doctor. This is NOT that kind of needle.

I could go on about theory and meridians and all that. We're taught a lot about how it works and I could bore you with a lot of detail using esoteric language that's not very familiar. I won't do that. The bottom line is that it does work across the body's nervous system in some pretty spectacular ways, but we don't know completely. It's like artificial intelligence. We know it works even if we can't fully explain it.

The short answer is just about anything. Acupuncture works on the principle that any disease/condition is a sign that something is out of balance. If I ask enough questions to find where the imbalance is, I should be able to treat it. Pain, for example, is pretty straight forward. Find it and address it. Other things like internal medicine (migraine, autoimmune, anxiety/depression, etc) are more complicated on the surface. But the same principle applies, find it and address it. Think of it as a system reboot.

The first visit is longer. I'll do a thorough intake with lots of questions. I want to get a big picture idea of what's going on with your health. This is also your chance to ask questions of me. We get to know each other. I want you to have some trust in the guy who will be inserting needles in you. And when you're ready, we get to work. After the needles go in, I turn the lights down and let you simmer for a while. Typically about 20-30 minutes. First visit I give you the option for me to hang out in the room in case you feel anything you have questions about. Otherwise I let you have the room and take a nap if you want. Snoring is considered high praise. Follow up sessions are far fewer questions.

Wear loosely fitting clothes. Most of the money points are located from the elbows and knees down and are easily accessible. If we need to access other points, I'll leave the room while you undress and get under the covers... like a massage. You'll be fully draped, I promise.

My hope is that you feel like a million bucks, but that's not always the case. It depends on what we're treating. Sometimes the change is a little slower and it can sneak up on you. I ask that you pay attention over the next couple days to the details, the minutia of what we discussed with our intake. You will feel differently though. If you feel exactly the same when you leave as you did when you came in, then I missed something.
